A Message from Brandon:

Hello, Kent County residents!

I'm Brandon Gardner and I am running for Kent County Probate Judge. With a demonstrated commitment to making justice more accessible to underserved populations; a lifelong passion for the rights of parents, children, and the elderly; and an unwavering demand for better from the Courts, I aim to serve the Kent County community with experience to maintain and build safe communities, compassion to bring voice to the underserved, and equity under the rule of law.

My father was a career officer in the United States Air Force, causing the family to move several times and weaving a tapestry of life experience. My elementary education was punctuated by drive by shooting drills, active tornados, and corporal punishment. We witnessed the Million Man March, three former presidents, and Gulf War bombing missions.

When I grew up, I wanted to make a difference.

Michigan became my permanent home when I attend law school at Michigan State University. While in law school, I was an investigator with the Ingham County Probate Court, a clerk to Judge Paula JM Manderfield (Ret.), and a volunteer at Legal Services of South Central Michigan. Prior to law school, I was a small claims mediator and legal advocate for the mentally ill on involuntary holds. My 14 year legal career has been a relentless pursuit of holding myself and others to their values, which I will bring to the bench if elected. Laws are society's interpretation of what constitutes maintenance and order, and courts are most effective when they bring clarity to situations where society did not anticipate. My vision for the probate court is (1) easier access, (2) confidence, and (3) peace.
