More and more fishkeepers turn to flake and pellet forms as more convenient options for fish food.  Though your fish might enjoy live food more, it is safer to feed them with manufactured fish food that packs all the essential nutrients and won’t spread any disease in your fish tank.

Flakes are good sources of nutrients and minerals that keep marine and freshwater fish active and healthy.  Not only top-dwellers and mid-water fish can be given flake food, as they eventually sink and can be consumed by bottom-dwellers in your fish tank.  For bottom-feeders, soak the flake food to water first before dropping them into the tank so they will easily reach the bottom.

This type of fish food comes in different flavors and have a longer shelf life than other feeds.  Despite the longer shelf life, however, flakes may easily lose its nutrients, so it is advised not to stock them for too long.  Only buy the right amount of supply for a month.

For larger fish, sinking and floating pellets are more ideal.  Pellets come in different sizes and shapes, and this make them great fish food alternatives for differently sized fish.
