Before you begin studying the Japanese laguage, you need to assess your goals. Do you wish to become highly fluent and literate in the language and use it for your work? Do you simply want to develop some basic conversation skills so that you can travel around in Japan without much difficulties? Do you have a few Japanese friends whom you wish to converse in their native language? Understand your goals, and be realistic about what you wish to achieve. Plan and determine the amount of time you can afford to learn Japanese. Devote a few hours a week and you will do fine in no time.
